John Tartt, MPH, EMT-P
Director, Emergency Medical Sciences program

A Message from the Director
Despite the rigorous demands, being a paramedic is challenging, exciting and extremely rewarding. The demand for clinicians that can think critically, problem-solve and communicate effectively with other members of the healthcare team is ever increasing. Paramedics are consistently acquiring new skills, gaining autonomy to function as an advanced care practitioner and making decisions in the field that are usually reserved for the hospital domain.

Now is the time for you to join this exciting program and help shape the future of the emergency medical service profession. If you think you have a desire to deliver life-saving interventions in an environment that requires quick and decisive action, Carolinas College of Health Sciences has an educational program to meet your needs.

Program Overview
Emergency Medical Sciences education at Carolinas College of Health Sciences is offered through a partnership with The Center for Prehospital Medicine. There are two programs: the Paramedic Education Diploma Program and the Associate in Applied Science in Emergency Medical Services.

Paramedic Education Diploma Program
This program is a full-time (40+ hours per week) program that allows EMTs the opportunity to progress in their education and career. Most students are sponsored by the Mecklenburg EMS Agency (MEDIC), but a limited number of spaces are available to non-MEDIC personnel. The course of study leads to a diploma fulfilling the requirements for testing as an EMT-Paramedic. For more information about MEDIC, please call 704-943-6089 or visit: www.charmeck.org/Departments/Medic/home.htm
